I do care...

...about sustainable development!

...about partner orientation in development cooperation!

...about the capacity development priorities of my clients!

...about solutions meeting stakeholders‘ needs and expectations!

... about sustainable development and the sustainable development goals!

As a diligent international development professional, I believe that the well-being of our planet and its inhabitants should be at the forefront of all our endeavors. I am acutely aware of the interconnectedness of global challenges and the urgent need for collective action to address them. I’m equally aware about the challenges to agree on the required collective actions on a global level and to facilitate the collaboration in development projects.

I have dedicated my career to the pursuit of sustainable development and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). I have spent one and a half decades working for various development organizations, mostly in projects aiming at inclusive governance structures and at efficiency of service delivery by local governments. In my current role, I am supporting development organizations and project managers in the design and facilitation of cooperation projects, thus contributing indirectly to the SDGs that are at the center of the attention of the projects I work with.

I understand that the road to sustainable development is fraught with challenges, but I also believe it is paved with endless opportunities for positive change. Through collaboration, innovation, and unwavering determination, I am confident that we can build a more equitable and sustainable world for future generations. In the pursuit of sustainable development and the SDGs, I am resolute in my conviction that every action, no matter how small, has the power to make a meaningful difference.

… about the capacity building priorities of my clients!

As a development cooperation consultant, I perceive all development cooperation projects as capacity building endeavors. The capacity of partners’ systems - strengthening the skills, processes and resources that organizations, communities and the state need to adapt their service delivery in a fast-changing world - is the ultimate goal for all development cooperation projects.

Therefore, I must strike a balance between recognizing that the sole responsibility for strengthening the capacities of partner systems lies with the political partners and the beneficiaries. On the other hand, the development agencies are my clients and have therefore the prerogative to set their priorities when systemic, organizational and individual capacity building needs are identified and translated into project objectives.

Practical experiences solidified my belief in the importance of a strategic approach to capacity building that must be based on a solid analysis of capacity building needs and combines activities addressing the different levels of capacity building. Such a systematic approach to capacity building can facilitate a joint dialogue of the involved partners of international development cooperation projects for a prioritization of capacity building measures. The capacity building is not only a strategic investment but has potential to empower partner countries and transform lives.

... about partner orientation in development cooperation!

As a development cooperation professional, I understand the importance of partner orientation in our projects. It is crucial for me to ensure that the objectives of cooperation projects are aligned with the goals and values our partners. Partner orientation is not just a technicality in development cooperation; it is a fundamental aspect of building sustainable and impactful partnerships.

One particular instance that stands out in my mind is when I was leading a decentralization project and the objective of the funding agency was a political reform process to delegate power to local governments, while the intention of our political partner merely aimed for the allocation of budget to development projects in the districts.

I made it a priority as the manager of this project and as an advisor to development projects  to establish open lines of communication, thus ensuring that an ongoing dialogue on the vision and objectives can be maintained and project implementation reflects a shared objective. In the decentralization project that became a participatory process in the identification of local development priorities.

... about solutions that meet stakeholders‘ needs and expectations!

As a professional working in development cooperation projects, I firmly believe in the importance of finding solutions that meet the needs and expectations of all stakeholders involved.

In my role, I must take into consideration that the political aspects of our projects align with the interests and priorities of the various parties involved. This means engaging in open and transparent communication, conducting thorough research and analysis, and constantly seeking input from all parties to ensure that their voices are heard and respected. In every decision I make, I am driven by a deep sense of empathy and understanding, knowing that the success of our projects ultimately hinges on the satisfaction and support of the stakeholders.

I do not take my responsibilities lightly, as I understand the impact that political decisions can have on the success of a project. Therefore, I am committed to find solutions that are fair, inclusive, and beneficial to everyone involved. I believe that by prioritizing the interests of all parties, we can create sustainable and impactful development projects that truly make a difference in the lives of those we seek to serve.
